An editor as a reader

The editor does editing of the script. Editing is the procedure of choosing and making audible, written, and film works more sensible and correct, organized, brief as possible with consistent work and complete work. The editing procedure generally starts with the writer's creation of the work. The work begins with the connection of the writer and an editor. The editing profession includes good relationships with people, precise methods, and creative skills.

There are different working patterns for editing jobs. A copy-editor works for a magazine, this profession is completely different than the editor who works on books and novels. The editors who work at a newsroom are different than one who works in the fashion industry or business industry. Therefore, there are different roles of an editor. An editor as a reader has to see all the aspects of the manuscript. An editor must know how to handle the work depending on its type, including fiction, journalism, and nonfiction novels.

The work of a copy editor is to read the written work and make sense of the work, remove grammatical mistakes, go into the technicalities of the work and make the content accurate, depending on the guidelines and style followed by the company. A copy editor can make changes and discuss it with the writer to follow the recommendations and changes. Based on the kind of publication, the editor can make the changes and ask the writer to do the same.

A script editor has different types of duties. Here the editor has to know about the flow of the book or article and, depending on that, can make the important changes. There are editors who can make a choice as to what article to publish and which writers to choose from the work, and are not involved in correcting the work and making it precise.

Therefore, an editor as a reader refines the work. The editor gives a definite path to the story from a movie, a book, or an article. The editor cuts out the parts which are unessential and lengthening the story unnecessarily. The editor highlights the important major points, focusing attention to situations where the audience should concentrate and remain intrigued by the story.

Editors are required in many professions like:
·         Film
·         Video
·         Magazine
·         Newspaper
·         Blog
·         Books and novels, both non-fiction and fiction

The work of all is to make sure that the end-product is refined, polished, and best for people in the market. Depending on the profession their work limited to some extent. For example, an editor for film will take weeks to complete the work; similarly, the sound editor will require several weeks to finish editing. On the contrary, a book editor may require a year to collaborate on all the work along with the writer, especially for non-fiction work. In the newspaper, an editor will a need few minutes to complete the work online, whereas editing on paper will take a few hours. Editors can change their professions or work in different fields at the same time. Depending on the kind of profession, their role may change.

In a publishing house there are many kinds of editors:

Acquisitions editor: Here, the editor has to search for new writers and sponsors writers, which the editors find profitable for publishers. Many times editors have to prove the writer’s strength in order to promote them. New writers and literary agents generally give their manuscripts to the acquisitions editor. The acquisitions editor is an expert in fiction work.

Developmental editor: An editor helps authors to create a book from a simple idea, or from an outline. An editor ensures that the book has all the requirements which will help the book be published. Therefore, an editor is in close association with the writer. The editor guides the writer while writing non-fiction.

Manuscript or Copy editor: The editor makes sure that the script is in good style and standards. An editor corrects any inconsistencies in the book, grammar mistakes, spelling mistakes.

Proofreader: This person is the last person to check the book. A proof reader compares the work of the writer with the old version. The work of the proofreader is different than the editor, but sometimes editors can work as a proofreader.
